Sorghum production in Brazil is expected to grow by 22% in the 2025/26 crop year

In Brazil, Portal do Agronegocios reported that sorghum production in Brazil is expected to see strong growth in the 2025/2026 harvest. According to projections from the National Supply Company (Conab), the country should harvest 7.47 million tons, a 22% increase compared to the previous cycle, driven by the expansion of the planted area to 2.02 million hectares.

This performance places sorghum among the crops with the greatest growth this season and reinforces its strategic importance within Brazilian agribusiness, according to the report.

The growth in production is directly linked to a change in strategy by producers, who have begun to expand sorghum cultivation in areas traditionally used for second-crop corn, it added.

The reduction in the area planted with second-crop corn, coupled with more challenging weather conditions, has opened up opportunities for sorghum to expand in several regions of the country.
